Hi it’s Jane and Nick from Gardenvale Chinese Medicine. When it comes to menopause, we women have to deal with dry, irritated vaginas, night sweats, irritability and so forth… I thought male menopause meant you get to date young girls and drive motorbikes. But Nick would like to talk to us today about this very serious condition.

At around age 50, testosterone reduces in males, and is also known as androgen deficiency.

Symptoms can include:

Fatigue, mental health problems, physical weakness, low libido.

As menopause for women is a natural occurrence, so too is male menopause. There are some things you can do to help your body, not so much by boosting testosterone with supplements of hormones, but by helping your body to produce it better and more efficiently.

Let’s go through a few things:

Sleep:

Super important to be getting enough sleep and good quality sleep. See our sleep hygiene video if you need any pointers.

Nutrition:Warming Vegie Chilli

Eating food that are high in zinc & protein

Reducing sugar, especially simple or refined carbohydrates.

Managing stress:

Stress hormones such as cortisol reduce secretion of testosterone.

To keep stress levels down, do things like Nick: yoga, meditation and regular acupuncture.

Anything that helps you improve oxygenated blood flow through the body.

Stay tuned for our upcoming video where we discuss another condition that impacts men’s lives, the “manflu”…
