Movement matters, but sometimes we feel too strapped for time to get in some exercise. Or sometimes, we just feel too low on energy to move.
It is so easy to get caught up in our busy lives that we don’t set time aside for any movement whether its stretching, walking or exercise of another kind. It is easy for movement to drop down in our list of priorities (understandably). However, movement matters! Studies say that just 10 minutes of movement a day makes a difference! It’s not what you do that matters, just as long as you move your body in some way!
Movement has an integrated affect on the bodies’ systems:
- Moves blood flow
- Increases concentration
- Brings oxygen to the muscles
- Releases growth hormone, enhancing bone and tissue growth
- Strengthens muscles to support bone structures
- Releases dopamine, improving mood
- Increases testosterone levels, improving growth, libido, mood
- Improves cardiovascular health
- Regulates blood sugar levels
- Decreases cancer risk
- Strengthens body’s defences to ward off colds/viruses
- And so much more!
If your fatigue is feeling strong, I would try a 10-minute morning mobility routine. You can do this in the confines of your bedroom! I like to practice Shona Vertue’s 10 Minute Daily Mobility Routine (YouTube), which involves energising the body by waking up the joints and get the blood flowing, without tiring you out!
Movement in the morning improves energy, reduces stiffness and pain, and creates a more clear mind to start your day. Practising mindful movement throughout the day will also help with body stiffness and pain, brain fog, concentration, and energy.
Movement matters a lot, but something I feel strongly about is listening to your body. If you exercise and feel tired after, try a more gentle exercise next time.
