The festive eating season is here yet again. So let’s talk about an issue very close to my stomach, and that’s over eating.

It’s not uncommon during this period to eat until we are feeling physically unwell.

What can I do to avoid the trauma of overindulgence?

It is hard during the festive eating season but, avoid starchy carbs. This is anything made of wheat or grain (pasta, bread) These will dump a lot of sugar into your blood stream, and you want to save room for some of those delicious looking desserts! Instead try to fill your plate with salad and protein. This is a good way to eat. If you do choose to have dessert. Try and choose just one not three! and enjoy it.

Intermittent fasting

You have probably heard a lot about this lately. This can include skipping meals (such as breakfast, lunch or dinner) the day before or after any day you may potentially engage in overindulgence. Instead drink water. Keep in mind if you drink herbal tea or coffee this will engage enzymes within the liver taking the detox level down. However skipping meals and maintaining fluids will still assist with toxicity and sugar levels in our blood. This gives your metabolism a chance to reset.

Avoid intermittent fasting:

  • Females: during or after your period
  • During stressful times
  • If you have a medical condition consult with your medical practitioner.
