What is my skin saying?

Your skin is trying to tell you something! Redness, dryness, pus, itchiness, flaking, oiliness….. it is all an expression of something that is occurring inside you.

Most people turn to topical remedies to address their concerns, however in Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, we view skin conditions as a reflection of inner imbalances. Rather than treating the surface and waiting for it to return, we attempt to regulate your internal systems, allowing your skin to heal from within.

Pimples

Inflamed, red, and cystic breakouts can be a sign of Heat trapped in your body that is trying to escape! This “Heat” can come from diet, stress, environment, and constitution. The cystic aspect of your pimples occurs when your body produces excess “Damp”, which aligns with fluid and food metabolism (think weak digestion).

Eczema

If your eczema is dry, itchy, raised, inflamed… there is an aspect of body, blood, or dryness. Your body’s ability to moisturise your skin has been compromised. Acupuncture and herbal medicine focus on nourishing these fluids and strengthening your body’s ability to transmit them to your skin. We’ll look at hydrating foods and lifestyle changes to further strengthen treatments.

Psoriasis

Scaly red patches also arise from an internal heat… a heat which can form from different root causes. We aim to discover your root cause and support it while also mitigating skin symptoms.

Dryness

We work on nourishing your “Blood” and strengthening your body’s fluid metabolism so that it can provide moisture to the body’s surface.

Oiliness

Your body is creating excess sebum for a reason! We aim to look at why it’s happening (gut health, circulation, blockages) and direct our treatment towards that.

Whether we work on stress management, digestive health, clearing Heat, or lifestyle alterations, treatments aim to strengthen your body’s functions that are related to skin health.

Understanding why your body is producing different reactions helps us to discover other symptoms that may be related or work on prevention.

Rather than masking your skin with topical treatments, we encourage a deeper dive into your overall health. By looking at your body as a whole and identifying your internal imbalances that are contributing to your skin conditions, we can head towards a healthy skin from the inside out.
